This calculator expresses the value of a hedge position as a percentage of the total exposure being hedged. If an exposure is worth $100,000 and the offsetting position is worth $75,000 on a comparable basis, the simple value hedge ratio is 75%. The calculation is useful for describing hedge size, checking an instruction or comparing scenarios.
A value ratio does not measure how effectively the hedge offsets risk. Prices may move by different amounts, contract multipliers may apply, currencies may differ, and basis risk can remain. The currency selectors on the form are labels only: the page performs no exchange-rate conversion. Both entries must therefore already be valued in the same currency, at the same date and on a consistent sign and valuation basis.
